Located towards the East of Rohtang Pass, Bhrigu Lake is one of the most majestic and awe inspiring sites that the Kullu Valley has to offer. The lake is named after one of the great 7 Hindu sages called Maharishi Bhrigu. Local Legend dictates that the lake never fully freezes over, because the sage has rendered it sacred by meditating near it.
The Bhrigu Lake trek is easily approachable from Manali. The beginning leg of the trek is from the village of Gulaba, located only 3 hours from Manali. There begins a three day trek to the actual lake. Reaching an ambitious 14000 feet, this grassland trek is one of the most unforgettable experiences for high altitude alpine meadows. The trek is characterized as a moderately difficult climb – complete with scenic undulating walks and one or two steep ascents. Not only do you get to experience the oval shaped, mystically colour changing lake; but you also get to soak in the grandeur of the Mount Hanuman Tibba, the Seven Sister peaks of the Beas Kund Valley and hot sulphur springs of Vashisht. Lush green virgin forests full of Himalayan silver Oak, cedar and birch trees accompany you till the time you reach the grazing grounds of Rola Khuli. And at night, your eyes will be blessed by the sight of a great big celestial display, making this trek unmissable and truly beautiful.
