WHY SHOULD YOU TAKE THIS TREK?
Kareri lake, at an altitude of 9800 feet, located in the Dhualadhar mountain range in Himachal Pradesh. Kareri lake trek, one of the best preserved offbeat trek, is adventourous in true sense for begineers and experienced trekkers alike. Kareri lake, made from melting snow from Dhauladhar mountain, is a natural shallow lake with high see through visibility in its water. Located 9 kilometer north west to Dharamshala in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, Kareri lake serves as a perfect trekking destination.
Kareri lake serves as a base for trekking further deep in the Dhauladhars and is enroute to Chamba and Bharmour via the Minkiani Pass (4250m) and Baleni Pass (3710m). Frozen in months from December to March, Kareri lake is sometimes also trekked in these months, owing to a well drawn trail by locals and trekkers. A Shiva and Shaki temple overlooks the lake from one end and the mighty mountains act as protector from the other. One should definitely add Kareri lake trek on the to do list to experience an offbeat trekking adventure.
EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS TREK
Day 1: Mcleodganj – Bhagsu Nag
Upon reaching Mcleodganj, after a tiring journey, check in at The Hosteller Mcleodganj at 11 AM. Located 5 minute away from the city centre, The Hosteller Mcleodganj offers serene mountain views, comfortable rooms and various local experiences. After settling down, one can walk down to Mcleodganj village for grabbing delicious Himalayan, Israeli or local food. Our trip coordinator would then meet you at the city centre for a 3 hour Mcleodganj and Bhagsu Nag tour. Once back, one can enjoy with other travellers around the bonfire or can make themselves comfortable in the cozy rooms. A delicious vegetarian dinner is served in The Hosteller cafe around 9 PM.
Day 2: Mcleodganj – Reoti
Post an early breakfast around 7 AM, one should put on the hiking shoes and prepare to leave for Reoti via Kareri village (around 27 kilometres from Mcleodganj). Our highly experienced local trek guide awaits at the reception to start the journey to the Kareri village (takes around 4 hours) traversing through dense pine forests, enjoying serene views and sharing local facts. Post reaching the campsite in Reoti village and settling down, one can just relax and enjoy the camping experience, with mountains all around. A delicious vegeterian dinner (around bonfire) sums up the day for a peaceful night under a million stars.

Day 3: Reoti – Kareri Lake
The day begins early with breakfast served at 7 AM. Post breakfast, what follows is the most important part, as it the final hike to the Kareri lake. With coniferous as well as deciduous trees along the way, the final trail is very beautiful and welcoming. Upon reaching the campsite at Kareri lake, one can enjoy the serene views, sit by the lake sipping coffee or just witness the magic unfold in front of eyes. A delicious vegetarian dinner is served around bonfire at the lake.

Day 4: Kareri Lake – Ghera – Mcleodganj
Marking it as the last day of the trail, post breakfast, one should start the descend to village Ghera. At Ghera, board a jeep to drive back to Mcleodganj, to reach in time. The trip ends here.
