Ranked by Conde Nast as the 7th best city to visit in India, Jaipur is the land of old tales and modern tastes. A lot of people wonder why it is called the Pink City. The main reason for all the houses being painted in a rich pink colour was to welcome the Prince of Wales in 1876. Though the streets are filled with the chaos of everyday modern life and the footfall of camels and oxen; the opulent palaces and royal halls lend to this city, an ethereal feel. Once inside one of the grand forts like Amer or Nahargarh, it is incredibly easy to forget the presence of the outside world and feel like royalty. The entire place is filled to the brim with the most remarkable and animated marketplaces. From miniature sculptures of past kings and queens to traditional mojris stitched with golden threads to glamorous lac jewellery – Jaipur’s markets are a one-stop shop for that memorable gift. Even in terms of cuisine and nightlife, Jaipur is a fan favourite. Decadent and classic recipes of traditional food keep travellers flocking to the food markets and new age restaurants in the Pink City.

On the way to Jaipur, lies the notorious Bhangarh Fort. The entire town complex comprises a big main palace, several beautiful temples, a dancers pavilion, a mosque, four big entry gates and several small shops and dhabas. Though there is no factual accounting for all the paranormal stories spun about this place, this eerieness provides for most of the fort’s tourism. 107 kms from Jaipur also lies the majestic Sariska National Park. It is one of the most frequently visited national parks of the country and houses jaguars, tigers, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, sambhars, nilgai, wild boars, chausingha (4 horned antelope) and more than 225 species of birds.
