Triund hill, a trek enroute Dharamkot in Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh, is one of the most trekked destination by begineers and professional trekkers. Falling in the mighty Dhauladhar range in lower Himalayas, Triund is the most preferred short trek ideal for a weekend getaway. Well connected to most parts of the country, Mcleodganj can be well reached by train, bus as well as flights via Dharamshala airport. Mcleodganj is also known as the Tibetan capital of India where the holiness Dalai Lama spends his time in India. Known for historical sites like Bhagsu Nag temple, Shiva temple (believed to be 5080 years old), Galu temple and adventures like trekking, camping and paragliding, Mcleodganj is on every backpackers’ to do list.
Triund trek, achieving a maximum altitude of 9400 feet, is a easy to moderate trek that starts from Galu temple in Dharamkot. Triund trek, easily approachable by people from almost all age groups, traverses through forests consisting of oaks, rhododendrons and deodars. A 5 kilometre trail, it is easy to trek to Triund in less than 4 hours. However, the last 1 kilometre, known as 22 curves points, is where the trekkers gets an experience of real time adventure. Along the route, one can stop by to catch breath and enjoy delicious mountain maggi at one of the few small shops. Triund has the perfect view of the Dhauladhar mountain range on one side and the Kangra valley on the other.
EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS TREK
Day 1: Mcleodganj – Bhagsu Nag
Upon reaching Mcleodganj, after a tiring journey, checkin at The Hosteller Mcleodganj at 11 AM. Located 5 minute away from the city centre, The Hosteller Mcleodganj offers serene mountain views, comfortable rooms and various local experiences. After settling down, one can walk down to Mcleodganj village for grabbing delicious Himalayan, Israeli or local food. Our trip coordinator would then meet you at the city centre for a 3 hour Mcleodganj and Bhagsu Nag tour. Once back, one can enjoy with other travellers around the bonfire or can make themselves comfortable in the cozy rooms. A delicious vegeterian dinner is served in The Hosteller cafe around 9 PM.
Day 2: Triund
Post breakfast around 9 AM, one should put on the hiking shoes and prepare to leave for Galu temple (start point to Triund trek). Our highly experienced local trek guide awaits at the reception to take one to Triund (takes around 4 hours) traversing through dense pine forests, enjoying serene views and sharing local facts. Post reaching the campsite in Triund and settling down, one can just relax and enjoy the camping experience, on the mountain top. A delicious vegeterian dinner (around bonfire) sums up the day for a peaceful night under a million stars.

Day 3: Mcleodganj
The day begins early with breakfast served at 8 AM. Post breakfast, our trek guide takes you back to Mcleodganj, following a different way to descend. On the way down, one would pass through the waterfall. Sit around the waterfall, enjoy local food from nearby shops, or click as many selfies as possible. For photographers, Triund offers much more than mountain selfies. Having spent a few hours at the waterfall, one should descend down to Mcleodganj along with the trek guide. The trip ends here.
